The Contributions of March of Dimes to Healthy Babies

March of Dimes researches the health challenges during pregnancy and works toward preventing the problems that threaten babies

Are you pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or know a loved one who is pregnant? If the answer is yes, then you should learn about the March of Dimes Foundation. March of Dimes focuses on helping moms ensure full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

Did you know that a half a million babies are born prematurely in the United States each year and that premature birth is one of the top causes of infant death in this country?  One in ten of these premature babies will develop a permanent disability, such as lung disease, cerebral palsy, blindness or deafness.

These statistics are not to scare you, but instead to explain why the March of Dimes is so dedicated in its research to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

March of Dimes researches the health challenges during pregnancy and works toward preventing the problems that threaten babies.  March of Dimes has supported important research that has delivered vaccines leading to cures, funded research that has saved lives, developed standards of care for expecting mothers, and has educated women on how to have healthy pregnancies. If something goes wrong with a pregnancy, March of Dimes is there to offer information and comfort to families.

This year, March of Dimes celebrated a decrease of the U.S. premature birth rate for the sixth year in a row, reporting this year’s reduction as 1.3%, from 12.8% to 11.5%. With the help of this important organization, you and your loved ones can feel more confident about welcoming a healthy baby.

Premier Ultrasound Services works with expecting mothers daily and provides ultrasounds to make sure babies remain healthy at various stages of pregnancy.  Premier is proud to announce that it is an official sponsor of the March of Dimes to help ensure the health of babies worldwide.
